HISTORY 
IN THE MAKING

Our restaurant had its beginnings in 1972 ( the year after Disney opened in Orlando ). The present building, constructed during the 1930's, housed many operations which included a fish market, insurance agency, and coffee house.
 

The"monk's" concept began with the dream of creating a safe haven and a fitting repast for the traveler, as did monasteries of long ago.
Old St. Augustine graciously lends itself to the image of a quaint mission with monks tending to their vineyard.

 

Over the years, many guests have enjoyed our hospitality amid our "monk-abilia" and old world charm.

THE MENU

Our modest kitchen promotes a healthy and well-balanced lunch menu. In the caring spirit of a monastery, we proudly prepare honest and flavorful meals, hand-crafted and homemade for our guests. We do not serve "fast food," we serve wholesome food. All dishes are prepared to order, nothing deep-fried.  We feature hearty soups, salads, and sandwiches, as well as light seafood, beef, vegetarian, poultry entrees, and home-made desserts. Prices range from $3.25 to $7.25. 

Jonah's Grilled Catch
Select fish of the day served with our own sauce. Comes on a bed of brown and wild rice along with a garden salad.

Shrimp Sanchez
A casserole of shrimp, Minorcan-style tomato sauce with Datil, olives, Parmesan cheese, and wild rice. Accompanied by a garden salad.

Sister Lalou's Faux Cordon Bleu
A grilled chicken breast adorned with ham, melted Swiss cheese, lettuce, and pickle, served on a monk-made brown bun. Accompanied by our potato salad.

St. George's Quiche Lorraine
Traditional "egg pie" with bacon and Swiss, baked in our kitchen with love and care. Paired with a garden fresh salad .

Holy Cow! The Abbot
Our house-roasted beef, sliced thin, piled on brown bread, crowned with our specially prepared mushrooms, private recipe creamy horseradish sauce, and Swiss cheese melted under ye old broiler. Comes with our own potato salad.

Brother Sebastian
A hearty grilled sandwich on brown bread with ham, cheddar and cream cheeses, Dijon mustard, and red cabbage. Comes with a serving of our house-made potato salad.

El Grande! Monk's Burger
A half-pound of our specially prepared, hand- formed and charbroiled chopped beef. Served on brown bread with lettuce and pickle. Onion upon request. Accompanied by our great potato salad.

Monk's Cheeseburger
Our famous burger made better with cheese! Your choice of Swiss or cheddar with lettuce, pickle, and our own potato salad. Onion upon request.

Brother Roy & Sister Dale's Barbecue
House-roasted beef in our savory sauce, served warm on a monk-baked brown bun, with devilishly delicious potato salad.

Jezebel's Tuna Melt
Tuna salad on brown bread with your choice of Swiss or cheddar cheese melted on the top. Paired with our sinfully good potato salad.

Noah's Veggie Delight
Rolled and baked in The Monk's kitchen! Eggplant, tomato, and cheeses in pastry, topped with sour cream, and served with today's garden salad.

The Massive Salad
A healthy, generous serving of greens and vegetables. Served with wholly-grain bread.

The Massive Salad with Shrimp
The massive-size salad topped with our shrimp salad, and paired with wholly-grain bread.

The Massive Salad with Ham and Cheese
The popular massive salad adorned with ham , Swiss, and cheddar . Comes with wholly-grain bread.

The Massive Salad with Tuna
A bountiful amount of mixed vegetables served with a helping of tuna salad. Accompanied by wholly-grain bread.

Assisi's Grilled Chicken Salad
Grilled breast of chicken, sliced and served atop a generous portion of greens and veggies. Comes with wholly-grain bread.

St. Cecilia's Soup and Salad
A bowl of our house-made soup, small garden salad, and wholly-grain bread.

Sister Teresa's Grilled Cheeses
Her favorite-grilled Swiss, cheddar, and cream cheeses on brown bread and paired with our house potato salad.

Peter's Grilled Ham and Cheese
An ample portion of ham and your choice of Swiss or cheddar, grilled on brown bread and served with The Monk's potato salad.

Paul's Temptuous Tuna Salad Sandwich
Our special preparation of tuna salad with egg and celery. Served on brown bread with lettuce, pickle, and house-made potato salad.

Mary's Royal Roast Beef Sandwich
Thinly sliced, house-roasted beef on brown bread. Comes with lettuce, pickle, and The Monk's potato salad.

Jeremiah's Heavenly Ham Sandwich
A favorite! Ham, sliced thin, on brown bread with lettuce and pickle. Accompanied by potato salad.

Eve's Choice
Cream cheese, horseradish sauce, and assorted seasonal raw vegetables on brown bread, paired with today's garden salad.

Adam's Awesome Shrimp Salad Sandwich
The Monk's shrimp salad with celery, olives, and Parmesan cheese. Served on a wholly-grain bun with lettuce, pickle, and our peasant potato salad.
